Robert is known in Chambers as ‘Bobby’. He is listed in the top band of leading juniors in the Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession, which has referred to him as bearing the “stamp of excellence” and “very comfortable in big and lengthy cases”. He was appointed a Recorder in 2009 and sits on the Midland Circuit.
He is a successful junior with a varied defence practice, covering;

b) Serious Violence and Drug related offences involving significant amounts of class A and B drugs
c) Sexual offences
d) Fraud and money laundering offences
He has been involved in a number of high profile cases which include:
R v Shabir, Finn, Khan and others [2011] Manchester Crown Court – Conspiracy to Murder – Gangland, drug related execution of a rival drug dealer (the deceased body had 17 separate gunshot wounds).
R v Limb and others [2010] Norwich Crown Court – Leading junior, conspiracy to defraud HMRC, involving Nottingham criminal ‘firm’ and London/Essex based associates. The conspiracy involved an attempt to set up a complete and functional tobacco factory in the UK, purchasing the primary and secondary machinery from Bulgaria and importing the raw material from Turkey via a fake Irish Company. It was a complex case, joint investigation by HMRC and Serious Crime Squad, which included surveillance and covert material within the UK and Europe.
R v Broomfield and others [2010] Sheffield Crown Court – Murder. Gangland drive by shooting following dispute between S1, S2 postcode gangs.
R v Seth and others [2010] Leeds Crown – Substantial conspiracy involving the defrauding of banks
R v CW and others Leeds Crown Court – Conspiracy to supply class A drugs linked to murder allegation.
R v Woodcock, Bacon, Bacon and Jacques and others [2009] – Nottingham Crown Court – Operation Helium, a contract killing allegedly arranged by family members,
R v M and others [2009] Sheffield Crown Court – Gangland murder dispute involving S1, S2 and S3 postcode gangs.
R v Alfred and others [2009] Nottingham Crown Court – Conspiracy to defraud banking institutions, the fraud involved a number of defendants, who resided in Derbyshire Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire.
R v Mason, Briggs-Price, Barton and others – Conspiracy to import millions of pounds worth of Class A Drugs, from a Turkish /Amsterdam based Cartel. The case involved surveillance and covert operations in Sweden, Holland, Northern Ireland, the UK and Turkey. Undercover officers, intercept evidence, significant issues in relation to PII, the trial lasted approximately 3 months.
R v Martin, Ellis and others – Junior counsel instructed with Leading counsel to represent the defendant Ellis charged with assisting with the disposal of a body as part of the case against Martin and others charged with multiple murders. Defence of duress.
R v Toseland and others – The deceased was executed a gun being placed to the back of his head whilst kneeling down. Leading case on abuse of process, police covert operations involving bugging and the admissibility of legally privileged information deliberately or inadvertently obtained.
R v McKinnon, Gunn and others – Gangland murder. The execution of the Stirland’s in Maplethorpe Lincolnshire
R v Hudson and Others – The False Imprisonment and Murder of a young mother by the Hudson family. This was a brutal murder the deceased emaciated body eventually being discovered in the grounds of Newstead Abbey.
R v K and others – Murder of young Asian male in a park, partly captured on the mobile phone of one of the assailants.
Bobby was a leading junior in the Lincoln riots case.
