Steven specialises in cases involving serious violence and death; sexual offences (particularly rape and historic child abuse cases); arson with intent to endanger life; drugs and child cruelty.

R v McGregor, Hatherley and Perry (Manslaughter arising from a joint attack)
R v Jodie Russell (Attempted murder of two men by shooting outside a local pub)
R v Emily Barratt (Attempted murder by suffocation of a disabled man by his carer)
R v Carlisle and others (Home invasion, torture and robbery of occupants)
R v Stafford (Revenge petrol bomb attacks on two houses occupied by former witnesses).
Steven has also been junior counsel in many cases:
R v O’Brien and Salmon (Shotgun murder of a man due to “mistaken identity”)
R v Kelly and Andrews (Gang murder of 14 year old girl)
R v Hardy and others (Organised Crime Group supplying heroin to the East Midlands)
R v Warrington and others (Murder of a man by his son and friends)
R v Tett (Murder of a man by a fellow patient at a psychiatric hospital)
R v Bacon and others (Contract killing of a man by his family)
R v Griffin and others (Shooting of a man in Nottingham City Centre).
Steven practices mainly in Nottingham, Leicester, Derby and Lincoln, but has also worked in Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Manchester.
