Timothy completed his pupillage in London and then began practise with the West Midlands Prosecuting Solicitors department where he gained invaluable experience of the criminal justice system from its grass roots. A short period with the CPS followed when Pros Sols became the CPS.
His talent as an advocate were recognised and he was enticed back to the Bar where he has spent the last two decades. He has been a member of these chambers since 1992 and has built up a substantial practice both prosecuting and defending.
Timothy is considered to have an extremely good “bedside manner” and is often instructed to represent some of the more challenging and demanding clients and those with a mental disability.
He also has experience acting for and against public bodies such as Trading Standards, Seven Trent Water and Local Authorities in specialist fields. He is a trained badger expert.
He was recently described by a senior solicitor as “having an analytical ability of the highest order, one of the most able criminal advocates with highly developed interpersonal skills, in short a formidable advocate”.
A local judge said of him that he considered him to be personable, good humoured, calm, competent, logical and persuasive. He considered him to have the common touch and described him overall as “ a very effective jury advocate”.
He has been described by a senior member of the CPS as “a very competent advocate”.
Timothy appears in all the Crown Courts on the eastern side of the circuit and has made frequent appearances in the Court of Appeal and the Divisional Court.
