Pupillage
Pupillage at No. 1 is for 12
months with a nominated Pupil Supervisor for the full
period. There will be occasions, particularly during
the first 6 months, when you will spend a period of time
with other members of Chambers to broaden your experience of
work in Chambers. Towards the end of your first 6 you
will certainly spend a period with junior members of
Chambers to witness the type of work that you will be
expected to deal with in your second 6 months.
We expect you to work hard
during your pupillage and in return we will ensure that you
have breadth and depth of experience needed for a successful
career at the criminal bar.
During the first 6 months you
will receive an award of £5,000 payable monthly in arrears.
Workload can vary dramatically in your second 6 but we would
hope you would exceed receipts of £15,000 during the period.
In recent years second 6 pupils have usually been in the
Magistrates' Court several days per week with a gradual move
into Crown Court work.
Member of Chambers operate all
over the Midlands and occasionally further afield and

expenses when necessary.
You will receive informal
feedback during your pupillage and more formal feedback as
and when required.
When recruiting pupils we look
for personality, all-round ability and commitment as well as
considering your academic record. We are an equal
opportunities employer.
Chambers operate a shared desk
policy and has computers available in Chambers with access
to all recent case law, reports, and articles.
Any application for tenancy
made at the end of the 12 months of pupillage on offer will
be considered on its merits at that time.
